Brooklyn Museum - Ancient to Contemporary Art

From its gorgeously grand exterior, to its incredible collection of contemporary and historic art, the Brooklyn Museum features 560,000 square feet of inspiring space for art lovers to wander and admire the glory of human expression. Located in the heart of Brooklyn - one of New York City's most creative and exciting urban centers - the museum offers a permanent collection that includes contemporary art, European painting, ancient Egyptian masterpieces, African art, and decorative arts. The Brooklyn Museum also presents cutting-edge exhibitions that reflect a fresh view of visual arts, as well as engagement with today's most significant artists and ideas. One of the oldest and largest art museums in the country, it's a prominent part of the 19th-century cultural complex of parks and gardens that includes Prospect Park, Prospect Park Zoo, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

  • Is there parking at the museum?

    There is on-site parking on a limited basis behind the Museum, off Washington Avenue, at $3 for the first hour, $2 each additional hour, and a maximum of $12. Parking costs a flat $5 for Target First Saturdays, starting at 5pm.

    Yes. Inspired by the cultural diversity of Brooklyn, The Norm at the Brooklyn Museum offers an exciting new menu that blends America, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Indo-Chinese flavors. Led by Michelin-starred Chef Saul Bolton, the restaurant serves main meals, small plates, and drinks, surrounded by art from the Museum's collection in a transformed space by famed designer Anda Andrei. BKM Café serves artisan sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, craft beer, wine, juice, and coffee by Brooklyn Roasting Company. For the best sushi and Japanese food in NYC, walk to Oshima in Park Slope (71 7th Avenue). A short walk behind the museum brings you to De Hot Pot (1127 Washington Avenue), a Trinidadian treat in Lefferts Garden. Try the "Doubles," and get your Chicken Roti bone-in!
