Brooklyn Bridge Park: A Waterfront Recreational Destination

Located under the base of the Brooklyn Bridge and spanning 85-acres along the East River waterfront, this popular urban park is a recreational haven for New Yorkers. The 1.3-mile park begins on Atlantic Avenue on the south side, travels up past the Brooklyn Bridge, and goes up to Jay Street, just north of the Manhattan Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge Park includes 6 piers, the historic Fulton Ferry Landing, Empire-Fulton Ferry and Main Street Parks. Enjoy a stroll or lay out on the many lawns with spectacular views of New York Harbor and lower Manhattan. Pack a picnic and dine around one of the tabled areas and BBQ grills, or stop at the local eateries at the park, including the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, Luke's Lobster and Number 7 Sub's. Kids love Jane's Carousel and the playground and adults love the sports courts on Pier 2, with everything from basketball to Bocce. There is even a roller skating rink and a dog park. Go down to water's edge at Pebble Beach, enjoy free concerts at Bargemusic stage, tour the beautiful gardens and explore the bike paths throughout the park.

  • what gardens are at the Brooklyn Bridge Park?

The gardens vary per season, so definitely try to see them all. In the spring visitors can gaze at all of the wildflowers along the paths, In late June, the Pier 6 Flower Field is a half-acre of pink and purple swaths of native flowers. The clouds of Swamp Milkweed with spikes of Liatris in front of Jane's Carousel in August paint the landscape in flowers. By early autumn, grasses, daisies and early goldenrod on the Granite Terrace light up in the low fall light.
  • can I bring my own food to the park?

Yes, food is allowed in most areas of BBP. There is even a barbecue section for grilling and picnic tables around the park. No food is permitted in the children's playground, and no glass containers are allowed.
